Generally you want more fine grained control of the files in a set of duplicates: do you really delete the extra ones, or should some be replaced by hard links (smallest), soft links (slightly more expensive of disk space, but fragile of the original is moved), or mac Aliases (slightly larger still, but more resistant to the original being moved. MacOS supports Unix hard links, Unix soft links, and Mac aliases, all ways of having one file appear in multiple places in the directory tree. Let the scan complete, it may take a while depending on the size of the directory being scanned. Select a specific folder, or drag a directory into the Dupeguru window then choose Scan DO NOT SELECT YOUR ENTIRE HARD DRIVE. Often you don't want to blindly delete the extra copies, you just want the space back. Mount the image and open Dupeguru, optionally copy it to your /Applications/ folder to install it on the Mac. Duplicate File Finder Remover on the Mac App Store comes highly recommended, with a ton of features on top of a very intuitive UI. Deleting all but one of those at files would break all the other bundles. In some cases, they have identical ist files. This will only list the duplicate files and do not delete them by itself. For recursively searching within a folder, use -r option. Many things that look like files in the Finder are actually directories, called bundles) that only appear as files. Once installed, you can search duplicate files using the below command: fdupes /path/to/folder.
Why would you do the above command line? If you have six copies of a file, each in a different spot in the file system, after the above command line, you'd have one copy.
